Who We Serve
Our shelter, Day Center, and Welcome Central programs serve Leavenworth County residents. Demonstrating a county connection is straightforward — a prior mailing address, a pay stub from a local employer, an eviction record, a county ID, or school transcripts all qualify.
There is no sobriety requirement. No income threshold. No reservation and no waitlist for overnight shelter. The two requirements are a connection to Leavenworth County and the ability to care for yourself without assisted-living-level support.
Our community lunch is open to anyone in the Leavenworth area, regardless of housing status or county residency. Just show up.

Coldest Night of the Year 5K
Walk or run in solidarity with our unhoused neighbors — and raise funds from your own community through peer-to-peer fundraising. The Coldest Night of the Year is designed for people who want to participate meaningfully without making a large personal financial gift. Build a team, bring friends, and let your network extend ours.
You don't have to give a lot to raise a lot. Past participants have raised significant funds entirely through their own networks, one small ask at a time.
Monthly First-Friday Community Events
Every first Friday of the month, we take our work beyond 311 Kiowa. The afternoon begins with street outreach — our team connecting with neighbors who are experiencing homelessness or navigating the transition back to stable housing. The evening continues with a community event designed to maintain those connections over time.
This is not simply volunteering. Research on housing stability consistently shows that sustained community connection is one of the strongest predictors of whether someone maintains stable housing after leaving a shelter. These events are built around that finding. Showing up on a Friday afternoon is an act of community that has measurable consequences for the people you meet.
If you have experienced homelessness yourself and wonder whether these events are for you — they are. They were designed with you in mind. You do not stop belonging to this community once you have a home.
