We are the only low-barrier homeless shelter in Leavenworth County. From a first night of safety to a permanent address, our three programs work together at 311 Kiowa to meet our neighbors where they are and walk with them toward stability.
What Homeless Services Does the Community of Hope Provide?
Our Night Shelter, Day Center, and Welcome Central programs serve Leavenworth County residents. Demonstrating a county connection is straightforward — a prior mailing address, a pay stub from a local employer, an eviction record, a county ID, or school transcripts all qualify.
There is no sobriety requirement. No income threshold and no reservation for overnight shelter. The two requirements are a connection to Leavenworth County and the ability to care for yourself without assisted-living-level support.

Our Doors Are Open Every Day of the Year
Welcome Central
Welcome Central is the front door to our housing assistance programs in Leavenworth, Kansas. A case manager helps you replace a lost ID or birth certificate, apply for benefits, employment, and housing, and keeps checking in long after the paperwork is filed. In 2025, 80 people moved into housing through this work, 49 into temporary placements and 31 into permanent homes.
Day Center
The Day Center is open daily for breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry, free Wi-Fi, and case management without an appointment. Housing specialists, employment specialists, mental health professionals, and a recovery coach come into the building rather than sending you across town. Guests took 1,167 showers and washed 727 loads of laundry here in 2025.
Night Shelter
The promise here is a plain one: a safe place to sleep. The Night Shelter holds 35 beds for men, women, and children, with no reservation, no sobriety requirement, and no background check. We have not closed a single night since January 2018, and in 2025 we provided 6,492 beds to 198 people.

Community of Hope operates four programs at 311 Kiowa: the Night Shelter, open every night of the year with 35 beds and no reservation required; the Day Center, open 365 days a year with meals, showers, laundry, and on-site specialists; Welcome Central, a case management program that helped 80 residents obtain housing in 2025; and a free Community Meals program serving hot lunch Monday through Friday to anyone in need.

Under one roof at 311 Kiowa, we offer overnight emergency shelter, daytime services, three meals a day for unhoused guests, showers, laundry, case management, ID and documentation assistance, housing navigation, rent and utility assistance, and connections to on-site mental health, employment, housing, and recovery specialists through our partner organizations.
What is the difference between the Night Shelter and Day Center in Leavenworth?
The Night Shelter provides emergency overnight accommodation — 35 beds, open every night, no reservation required, with check-in after 8:00 p.m. and departure by 7:00 a.m. The Day Center opens at 7:00 a.m. and provides a safe daytime space with meals, showers, laundry, and on-site specialist services. The two programs are designed to work together so guests have continuous support around the clock.
Do I have to make a reservation to stay at the shelter?
No. The Night Shelter at Community of Hope accepts walk-ins every night of the year. There is no waitlist and no advance registration required. Simply arrive at 311 Kiowa after 8:00 p.m.
What proof do I need to access services at Community of Hope?
For shelter and case management programs, you need to show a connection to Leavenworth County. Accepted documentation includes a prior mailing address in the county, a pay stub from a Leavenworth County employer, an eviction record, a county ID, or school transcripts. Our community lunch requires no documentation of any kind.
