Every night of the year, our doors open at 9:00 p.m. and stay open until 7:00 a.m. Thirty-five beds. Men, women, and children welcome. No exceptions, no closures, no nights off.

The Only Low-Barrier Emergency Overnight Shelter in Leavenworth County

The Night Shelter exists because no one should spend a night without a safe place to sleep. We are the only emergency overnight shelter serving Leavenworth County, and we keep our entry requirements intentionally low. There is no sobriety requirement. There is no religious affiliation requirement. We ask two things: that guests are able to care for their own basic needs while here, and that they have a documented connection to Leavenworth County.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Guests check in beginning at 9:00 p.m. at our facility at 311 Kiowa Street in Leavenworth. The shelter closes for the night and guests are asked to be on their way by 7:00 a.m. While you are here, you have a safe, supervised space to sleep. If you are already connected with our Day Center or Welcome Central programs, your case management continues without interruption.

Most emergency shelters separate families or turn children away entirely. We don't. The Night Shelter serves families together, because keeping a family unit intact during a housing crisis is one of the most stabilizing things we can do. Proof of Residency — What Counts

To receive shelter, guests must demonstrate a documented connection to Leavenworth County. We understand that people in crisis often don't have a wallet full of paperwork, so we accept a range of documentation. Any of the following can establish your county connection:

• A Kansas ID or driver's license with a Leavenworth County address
• Prior mail delivery records showing a county address
• Recent pay stubs from a county employer
• An eviction record from a county address
• School enrollment records for a child attending a county school

Connected to Everything You Need Under One Roof

The Night Shelter is one part of a fully integrated facility. Our Day Center opens each morning at 7:00 a.m. — just as the shelter closes — so guests have a seamless place to go for breakfast, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Welcome Central case management is available throughout the day to help with documents, benefits, employment, and housing. All three programs operate from the same building at 311 Kiowa Street, built in 2018 and paid for entirely through community giving.

Volunteers Who Show Up When It Matters Most

The Night Shelter relies on trained volunteers to operate safely every night of the year. Because of the nature of overnight shelter work, volunteers for this program complete a specific orientation before serving.
