#NATIONALHOTCHOCOLATEDAY
Leavenworth’s new CEO of Community of Hope, Myranda Agnew, put out a call to action on her social media platforms for Hot Chocolate supplies last week. Myranda saw first hand through her years of volunteering that birthdays and holiday celebrations can be uneventful and painful for their guest who have no family or traumatic experiences. So on January 31st Myranda decided to treat the shelter guests to an unexpected holiday, National Hot Chocolate Day! In Myranda’s words “There is always a reason to celebrate another Day, friend!” If you have had the honor of spending anytime with Myranda, you would know “friend” is exactly how she feels about every guest that passes through their facilities. Unsurprisingly, Myranda has many friends and she reached out to them asking for donations of candy canes, chocolate chips, thin mint cookies, whipped cream, mini marshmallows, whole milk and crockpots. So many members of our community jumped at the chance to help her mission. Evening bringing crockpots at 6am in the morning, in the Kansas frigid temperatures. She reached out and gave specifics on what she was going to need and made something amazing happen. Her goal was to ‘Surprise and Delight’ the 50+ shelter visitors that she sees and greets on a daily basis. Myranda and her team have a genuine heart for the homeless community in our area and wanted to bring some joy to each one of them. Sometimes it is the simple luxuries that we take for granted, like a hot cup of Hot Chocolate on a very cold day. When in poverty, gratitude for the bare necessities becomes enough to fill your cup..and our amazing Executive Director, Myranda, is pouring all of her heart and some hot cocoa into those cups too. The Community of Hope is so grateful for everyone who came together to help make this day happen and we hope our volunteers had their cups and hearts filled too.
The Community of Hope and the city of Leavenworth are so blessed to have Myranda and her team serving our community. Please visit our Volunteer Page
